Precision Machining & Tooling for Electric Motor Manufacturing
Electric motors live or die on precision. A few microns of runout on a shaft, an uneven lamination stack, or an inconsistent air-gap and the motor runs hot, loud or inefficient. Tai Phat Precision supplies the electric-motor industry with what that precision depends on: accurately machined motor components and the fixtures that hold tolerance in production. We are a tooling and precision-component partner to motor manufacturers — not a competitor to them.
Precision Machining of Motor Components
End shields, housings, casings, shafts and bearing seats — the parts where concentricity and tolerance decide whether a rotor spins true. Motor shafts and round components are finished on our in-house centreless grinder for high roundness and the tight diameter control bearing fits require; flat mating and sealing faces are ground on our surface grinder. Held to ±0.01 mm as standard, ±0.005 mm where the feature allows.
Why Motor Parts Are Demanding
- Concentricity & runout — bearing seats and shaft journals must be true to keep the air-gap even; we control this with turning + centreless grinding and verify runout at QC.
- Stack alignment & skew — stator/rotor cores are stacks of thin laminations, often skewed a few degrees to reduce cogging torque; holding skew and stack height consistent is a fixture problem before it's an assembly problem.
- Thin, heat-sensitive parts — housings and end shields distort easily; we plan fixturing and cutting strategy to control distortion, not just the final dimension.
Fixtures & Tooling for Motor Production
We design and build the workholding that makes motor production repeatable:
- Lamination stacking fixtures — controlling stack height, alignment and skew angle.
- Magnet-bonding & potting fixtures — locating and holding during adhesive cure.
- Coil-winding tooling.
Fixtures are designed in Siemens NX and machined in our own shop, then proven on real trial parts before release. Designing the locating scheme first (3-2-1, cylindrical + diamond pin), separating locating from clamping, and controlling skew with the fixture rather than by hand is what keeps a full ring of laminations consistent.
Development & Low-Volume Core Work
For prototype and low-volume programmes we can also stack laminations, assemble stator/rotor cores and bond magnets in-house — useful for validating a fixture or building first articles before a customer scales up. For certified high-volume motor assembly (dynamic balancing, electrical testing, motor-level certification) we'll tell you where a dedicated assembly house fits better — we scope this honestly rather than overstate it.
Materials We Machine
Aluminium (housings, end shields), carbon and engineering steels (shafts), stainless steel, and electrical/silicon steel laminations handled through fixturing. Machining after heat treatment available.
Quality Control
Concentricity and runout checks on rotating components, dimensional inspection on housings and end shields, first-article and critical features on our in-house CMM.
Working Under NDA
We work with motor developers under NDA and don't publish client names or end products. Your programme stays yours — we can sign an NDA before quoting.
