Brass Machining
Bushings, connectors, electrical contact valves and high-speed turned parts.
Grades we run
| Grade | When we use it |
|---|---|
| C3604 | Free-cutting brass bar — our choice for turned parts |
| C2680 | Brass sheet — for flat and formed parts |
Machinability
Brass is one of the easiest metals to machine: it cuts quickly, breaks into short chips and leaves small burrs. As with aluminium, cost is driven mainly by setups and features, not cutting time.
C3604 contains lead, which is what makes it free-cutting. If your part must meet a lead-free requirement, tell us at quote stage so the grade can be agreed before we order material.
Flat C2680 profiles up to ~3 mm thick can be cut on our in-house fibre laser.
Tolerance & finish
±0.01 mm as standard, ±0.005 mm on request where the feature allows. Ra 1.6 as-machined, Ra 0.8 by fine turning. Brass is soft, so cosmetic faces need careful handling and packing.
Surface treatments
Coordinated, inspected on return
Plating and polishing through our finishing partners; laser marking in-house.
Design tips
- Mark cosmetic surfaces on the drawing so they're protected through machining and packing.
- For contact parts, specify which faces carry current or seal, and the finish they need.
- State any lead-free or RoHS requirement up front — it decides the grade.
